The Toronto Blue Jays are determined to continue their winning streak as they charge into Rogers Centre for the series finale against the Detroit Tigers. Riding high after a run of six straight games, the Blue Jays are now in the running for the American League Wild Card. During their current run of success, their offensive machine has been churning out over six runs per game on average. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. at the top of the lineup is still a nightmare for opposing pitchers, as well as George Springer’s constant MVP-caliber performance. The middle of the order is dominated by Matt Chapman and Bo Bichette’s combination of power and on-base abilities which gives the Blue Jays a versatile offensive threat.

The rookie, Alex Manoah, will carry most of the burden in this Blue Jays vs. Tigers pitching match. Manoah is a bright spot in the Toronto starting rotation with an incredible 3.25 ERA and 1.18 WHIP after 12 starts, employing a sub-3.00 ERA at Rogers Centre where he has experienced great success. Since this will be Manoah’s first game against the Tigers this season, it will be interesting to watch how he adjusts to Rogers Centre’s new surroundings.

The Detroit Tigers’ season has been a completely different story. The Tigers who have lost eight of their previous ten games are currently going through a terrible phase as they are mired in the bottom of the AL Central. Their offense has struggled with consistency which is a major contributing factor to their struggles. The rest of the lineup hasn’t quite found their groove although Javier Báez is still the one shining star. Pitching woes have made matters worse the Tigers have a team ERA significantly higher than the league average.

Matthew Boyd is expected to start for the Tigers in this game against the Blue Jays. Boyd’s 5.77 ERA, which he has only made 18 starts this season, is concerning considering his inconsistent play. He has been particularly vulnerable to the long ball this season and has surrendered an alarming number of home runs. Boyd’s chances of winning this game seem slim given the Blue Jays’ reputation for powerful hitting.

The Blue Jays and Tigers play their final game of the season. With five games played in the season series so far, the Blue Jays have prevailed four times. Toronto’s winning record at Rogers Centre indicates that they have been successful at home this season, but their road record is a more depressing .500. However, the Tigers have a terrible record when playing away from Detroit. On the other hand, as the prolific Blue Jays’ offense has demonstrated, it can light up the scoreboard anywhere in the league.

The Blue Jays are heavily favored against the Tigers in this game from a statistical perspective. They have multiple hitters who can carry the team on any given night and their offense boasts a much higher average. The Blue Jays have found success with Manoah who has been an incredible pitcher, and the Tigers lineup is not expected to pose much of a threat. The pitcher-friendly confines of Rogers Centre may limit some offensive output, but the power of the Blue Jays bats cannot be entirely muted.

Prediction: Blue Jays (-270)

There is no doubt that the Tigers and Blue Jays’ matchup is not favorable. The Blue Jays ought to have little issue extending their winning streak as they are superior in almost every aspect of the contest. Manoah’s performance in his Rogers Centre debut will be the event’s high point. But given his all-around dominance this season, the Blue Jays are the clear favorites to win and further dash the Tigers’ already slim postseason chances.
