Fall Classic – American Family Field, October 23, 2026 · 8:00 PM ET
GAME OVERVIEW
History starts tonight. For the first time in baseball’s modern era, the World Series features two teams seeking their first-ever championship, the Tampa Bay Rays vs the Milwaukee Brewers, the best records in each league, meeting in a battle of baseball’s most thoughtfully built franchises . The Brewers (103-59, franchise record wins) swept the Dodgers in the NLCS and have had nearly a full week of rest . The Rays (98-64) eliminated the Guardians in six games to reach their third Fall Classic . American Family Field will be rocking, first pitch under a retractable roof with the lid closed, creating a playoff atmosphere unlike any other.
THE PITCHING MATCHUP — MARTINEZ vs MISEOROWSKI
This is where the game is won or lost tonight :
Rays — Nick Martinez (15-6, 3.10 ERA): Tampa Bay’s opener/long-man extraordinaire has been masterful in October — only 3 earned runs allowed over 9 playoff innings. The Rays could have started Drew Rasmussen (1.73 ERA since All-Star break), but opted to give their ace extra rest and go with Martinez’s versatility in Game 1 . He’ll mix speeds, keep the ball down, and rely on his defense behind him. The Rays bullpen — led by Pete Fairbanks — is fresh and ready.
Brewers — Jacob Misiorowski (16-5, 1.80 ERA, 252 K’s): The 6-foot-7 rookie phenom was the best pitcher in baseball during the regular season, leading MLB in ERA, strikeouts, WHIP, and opponent batting average (.157) . His first postseason pitch clocked 104.8 mph, the fastest in the pitch-tracking era . He’s allowed just 3 earned runs in 8.1 playoff innings. The question: can he maintain that elite command on the biggest stage? If he does, the Rays will be swinging through fastballs all night.
OFFENSIVE STARS TO WATCH
Rays:
– Yandy Díaz (3B): The hitting machine — .315 avg, elite contact rate
– Randy Arozarena (LF): October’s ultimate entertainer — always shows up in the playoffs
– Wander Franco (SS): The catalyst — sets the table at the top of the order
– Josh Lowe (CF): 25 HR / 25 SB — the perfect Rays player
Brewers:
– Jackson Chourio (RF): 25 HR as a 22-year-old — the Brewers’ everyday engine
– Christian Yelich (LF): The former MVP — hitting .315 vs lefties this season
– Willy Adames (SS): Power from the shortstop position — 32 HR
– William Contreras (C): One of the best-hitting catchers in baseball — .287 avg, 23 HR
Injury & Rest Update: Both teams are fully healthy. The Brewers have been off since last Saturday — well-rested but possibly rusty. The Rays played last Monday — slightly less rest but better rhythm. Bullpen depth is essentially equal — both staffs are fresh and ready.
KEY MATCHUPS
Rays’ Contact vs Misiorowski’s Power: The Rays chase fewer pitches outside the zone than almost anyone. If they can lay off that upper-90s heat at the top of the zone, Misiorowski will have to come in — and that’s where he’s hittable. If he’s locating at the letters, Tampa Bay is in trouble all night.
Brewers’ Power vs The Rays’ Park: American Family Field boosts home run power, especially to left field. Yelich and Chouria have combined for 55 HR this season . But Tampa Bay’s defense shifts and positions better than anyone, they take away the holes other teams exploit.
BETTING ANALYSIS & PREDICTION
Line: Brewers -135 | Rays +115 | Total: 7.5
Projected Score: Brewers 4 – Rays 3
This has “pitcher’s duel” written all over it. Two fundamentally sound teams, two excellent pitchers, and championship tension. Misiorowski has the higher ceiling, but Martinez has the craft and the Rays’ bullpen is deeper. The Brewers’ rest advantage is real, but rust is a genuine concern after a week off.
My Picks: Under 7.5 Runs — my strongest play of the night | Brewers ML (lean)
Best Value Prop: Randy Arozarena to record a hit — he loves the big stage and he’s patient enough to work Misiorowski for something he can handle early in counts.
Final Thought: Can anyone actually hit 104 mph heat consistently? Probably not — but the Rays make every pitcher work. Expect Misiorowski to throw 100+ pitches through 5-6 innings, then the bullpens take over. Classic World Series opener.
